How to make a DIY bookcase.

When it comes to storage, there's nothing quite as versatile as a bookcase. You can use them to store books, magazines, knick-knacks, and even clothing. But if you don't have the space (or the budget) for a store-bought bookcase, don't worry, you can easily make your own with some basic materials and a little bit of elbow grease. Here's what you'll need to make your own DIY bookcase:
  • 4 wooden boards (1" x 12" x 8')
  • 1 sheet of plywood (3/4" x 4' x 8')
  • Construction adhesive
  • Cordless drill
  • 1 1/4" hole saw
  • Paint or stain of your choice
To start, cut your plywood sheet down into four equal pieces (2' x 2'). These will be the shelves of your bookcase. Next, take two of your boards and cut them down to 4' lengths. These will be the sides of your bookcase. Now it's time to assemble the frame of your bookcase. Apply construction adhesive to the ends of the 4' boards, then attach them to the 2' x 2' shelves so they form a rectangle. Use clamps to hold the pieces together while the adhesive dries. Once the adhesive is dry, drill four pilot holes through the shelves and into the sides of the bookcase. Then, using a 1 1/4" hole saw, cut four circular holes in the shelves. These will be used to thread cord or rope through later, so they can be used to secure taller items. Finally, paint or stain your bookcase however you like and let it dry. Once it's dry, thread cord or rope through the holes you cut earlier and start filling up your new DIY bookcase with all your favorite things! #bookcase
