When addressing an envelope by hand, write the recipient’s name on the front of the envelope in the middle or at the top left-hand side.
If you are using a typewriter or word processor, you can print the recipient’s name in the same spot.
Underneath the recipient’s name, write the street address, city, state and ZIP code.
If the state name is too long to fit on one line, write the abbreviation instead.
If you are unsure of the proper abbreviation, you can look it up online or in a postal code directory.
