How to Avoid Jet Lag.

If you frequently find yourself dealing with jet lag after flying, there are some steps you can take to try to avoid it.
  • First, avoid drinking alcohol or caffeine during your flight. Both of these substances can dehydrate you, which can make jet lag worse. Drink plenty of water instead.
  • Second, get up and move around every few hours. Sitting in a cramped airplane seat for hours on end is not good for your body, and can make jet lag worse. Walking up and down the aisle a few times or doing some simple stretching exercises in your seat can help keep your body moving and may help prevent jet lag.
  • Third, adjust to the new time zone as soon as you can. If you arrive in the morning, try to stay awake until a reasonable bedtime in the new time zone. If you arrive at night, try to sleep as much as possible. The sooner you can adjust to the new time zone, the less likely you are to experience jet lag.
  • Fourth, avoid working or using electronics late at night before bed. The light from screens can interfere with your natural sleep rhythm and make it harder to fall asleep. If you must work or use electronics late at night, try wearing blue-light blocking glasses to reduce the amount of light exposure.
  • Finally, give yourself time to adjust. It can take a few days for your body to fully adjust to a new time zone. If possible, try to take it easy and not overschedule yourself for the first few days after arriving in a new place.
With these tips, you may be able to avoid or reduce the effects of jet lag the next time you travel.
